We are very happy to welcome Joe Whitney to the family!
The 30-year-old American forward has had quite the playing career so far. A Massachusetts native, he played NCAA Division 1 hockey for Boston College, serving as captain his senior year. The following 6 seasons after he graduated, Whitney was back and forth between the AHL and NHL within the New Jersey Devils organization. Since 2015, he has played in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, San Antonio Rampage, Tucson Roadrunners, Hartford Wolfpack, and Hershey Bears. The 5-foot-6-inch winger served as captain for both the Rampage and the Wolf Pack.
Now, Whitney has decided to take his talents to Sweden, signing a 2-year contract with Linköping HC of the SHL.
”I am very excited to go to Sweden with my family,” said Whitney in article posted to Linköping’s official website. ”I’ve been playing with many Swedes in the United States and they have all been very good people so I really look forward to being a part of that culture. I know Broc Little and Chad Billins from before and I have talked to Broc about Linköping and he said many good things about the city and the organization. I’m really looking forward to helping the team in the next two seasons and, as I said, very excited about coming to Sweden.”
